Benjamin Whitten Collegiate Chapter of the Year Award

Each year MTNA recognizes an outstanding collegiate chapter, its advisor and members for showing an exceptional level and depth of activities. Every MTNA collegiate chapter is encouraged to apply for this award. The winning chapter will not only be recognized at the MTNA National Conference, but also will receive a $500 prize provided by the MTNA Foundation Fund's Benjamin Whitten Endowment Fund. It's easy to apply! Just submit THREE COPIES of the following materials about your chapter activities:

  • A typed annotated list of chapter activities for the year.
  • Materials supporting these activities such as programs, invitations, fliers, budget and outcome reports, newspaper articles and so on. You may submit any number of activity descriptions.

You should include materials and documentation for all activitiesÑthose that have already occurred and those planned for the remainder of the academic year. As you write your activities, please consider the following award criteria:

  • Student membership involvement: Did the majority of members participate?
  • Contribution to the benefit or growth of the chapter: How did the activities build chapter membership and participation?
  • Contribution to and involvement with other musical organizations and the general community: How did chapter activities benefit your school, other organizations and/or the community?
  • Creativity: Were activities a result of new concepts or lessons learned from past attempts?
  • Attainment of goals: How did activities meet educational, membership, fund-raising, outreach or other goals for the chapter, community or campus?

Send all application materials to MTNA National Headquarters. Application materials must be postmarked by February 1, 2008.
