Teacher of the Year


The Teacher of the Year Award recognizes an individual teacher who has made a difference in students' lives, has contributed to the advancement of music in their community and is an example of a professional music educator.

Please note that a new descriptor has been added to the 2007 Teacher of the Year Award:

MTNA Teacher of the Year: Recognizing lifetime achievement as a music teacher


The following application criteria has been adopted by the Board of Directors:

  1. Each state is eligible to nominate one teacher to be considered for this national recognition.
  2. Submitted materials should include the following information/documents:
    • Teaching/professional achievement
      Number of years of teaching experience
    • Evidence of teaching excellence (i.e. students’ successes)
    • Accomplishments/contributions to MTNA
    • Participation in Local, State and/or National MTNA programs
    • Community involvement
    • Former student or parent letter of support
    • Professional colleague letter of support
    • Nominating letter from the state organization

 

The application criteria listed above will was established to provide current and future Teacher of the Year selection committees a starting point for their deliberations, as well as clarifying in advance what specific information the nominated candidates need to submit. How these items will be weighted will be left to the discretion of the committee.

The application deadline is December 1st.
